HUD is Celebrating and Supporting Fathers: Father’s Day 2013

June is finally here, which means that the weather’s heating up, school is winding down, and Father’s Day is just around the corner. In honor of the important role that dads play in the lives of their children, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is hosting its third annual Father’s Day event on Saturday, June 15th, which is a one-day event that aims to strengthen the bond between children and their fathers, who are often absent from the lives of their children who live in public and multi-family housing.

Over 24 million children—1 out of 3 nationally—live in father-absent homes. These children face increased risks for poor outcomes across every measure of child well being. That’s why HUD is working to connect dads to supportive services in their communities, including job training, health screenings, and education opportunities, while spending the day honoring fathers and celebrating what is one of the most challenging and important jobs a man can have: the job of being a dad.
