This report explains issues of chronic absenteeism, truancy, prevention, and intervention processes among Tribal youth. It addresses historic education policy and contemporary approaches utilized by Tribal communities to prevent and address truancy among Tribal youth and highlights helpful community-based approaches to support delinquency prevention program development.

Episodes one and two of the new five-part podcast series entitled Advances in Supporting Kinship Caregivers are now available. The first episode features a discussion of Rhode Island’s approach to kinship support services and the second episode focuses on Washington State’s approach to providing kinship support services. Topics discussed in the two episodes include but are not limited to: 

  • Why kinship caregivers should be treated differently by agencies and caseworkers, and the specific challenges kinship caregivers face. 

  • How to strengthen relationships between caseworkers and kinship caregivers. 

  • Differences in formal and informal kinship caregivers and the differences caseworkers may have to navigate when working with each. 

  • Cultural considerations caseworkers and others should be aware of when working with rural Latinx communities and families.
