The Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse & Violence Prevention is designed to help college and community leaders develop, implement, and evaluate programs and policies to reduce student problems related to alcohol and other drug use and interpersonal violence.

HHS Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell has announced a targeted initiative related to prescription opioid and heroin overdose, death, and dependence, which focuses on three priority areas:

1. Training for health professionals to aid in prescribing decisions
2. Increasing the use of naloxone

Based on findings from SAMHSA’s 2012 National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services, this report shows that nearly half of the nation’s 14,311 substance abuse treatment facilities accept teen clients, with 4,008 of those facilities also offering teens special programs or support groups.
