The HHS Office of Adolescent Health announced more than $86 million in teen pregnancy prevention grants to serve youth in communities where teen birth rates remain high.

It's Your Future Project

The It’s Your Future project implements two evidence-based teen pregnancy prevention programs: Safer Sex Intervention and Teen Outreach Program, which involve significant collaboration between Hennepin County, Minnesota’s Human Services and Public Health Department and its partners, including local government offices, non-profit organizations, and school districts.

Alana

We spoke with Alana via telephone and email in September and October 2013.

Alana is a member of the Gaston Youth Connected Teen Action Council in Gaston County, North Carolina. She enjoys educating her peers and community members about abstinence, contraceptives, STDs, HIV, and a minor’s rights to access reproductive health services. Alana also helps her peers access comprehensive sex education programs and teen-friendly health care services in Gaston County.

Kie'Ja

We spoke with Kie'Ja via email September and October 2013.

Kie’Ja is a member of the Gaston Youth Connected Teen Action Council in Gaston County, North Carolina. She is a teen pregnancy prevention advocate and is proud of herself for teaching others how to take care of their bodies and health even though it can be difficult to do so. She is a 16 year old youth leader who cares about giving back to her community and being accountable for her actions.
