"It helps [to have] someone to talk to when I’m angry, when I’m mad, when I’m depressed and helps me with my family and my health."
Justin shares his experience with School-Based Mental Health.
[Justin] I’m 13 years old and today I’m going to share with you how mental health services [have] helped me. It helps me by having someone to talk to when I’m angry, when I’m mad, when I’m depressed and helps me with my family and my health. I think it needs to be here because some of the kids here really need help and someone to talk to about their families and themselves, about what they do.
[Adult] How has it changed your life, when the school based counselor came in?
[Justin] Well, I used to get a lot of write-ups; I used to get into a lot of trouble; I used to get in fights with my family. Now I’m a good kid, [get] A, B, C [grades], me and my family’s fine. I think my mental health service counselor, I think she’s cool, she’s nice, she’s helpful and she’s caring.
