Study Findings
The program was evaluated using a cluster randomized controlled trial involving 9th and 10th grade high school youth in Maryland. Twelve schools were randomized in matched pairs to either the intervention condition that received Be Yourself/Sé Tú Mismo or a control condition that received an attention-control program that focused on nonsexual health-related topics. Surveys were administered before randomization (baseline), immediately after the program ended, and six months after the program ended.The study examined program impacts on sexual initiation and contraceptive use. Immediately after the program ended and six months after the program ended, the study found no evidence of statistically significant program impacts on any of the sexual behavior outcomes measures that were examined.
