Study Findings
The program was evaluated using a randomized controlled trial involving young men recruited from nine foster care agencies in New York City. Participants were randomly assigned to either a treatment that received the two-session ACE-Plus program or a control group that received the two-session On Track program. Surveys were administered before programming (baseline), three months after programming ended, and nine months after it ended.
At the three- and nine-month follow-ups, the study found no statistically significant program impacts for vaginal sex in the past three months without a condom or hormonal birth control use in the past three months. The study also examined program impacts on measures of confidence in a female sex partner(s) use of birth control in the prior three months; a visit to a clinic or doctor with sexual partner(s) to get birth control in the prior three months; and communication with sexual partner(s) about the type of birth control they were using in the prior three months. Findings for these outcomes were not considered for the review because they fell outside the scope of the review.
