This issue brief (PDF, 3 pages) outlines risk factors for youth human trafficking and corresponding strategies that K–12 schools can implement to help protect students from trafficking situations. Schools can play an important role in preventing and responding to youth human trafficking, and understanding the factors that make students susceptible to trafficking is an important first step. To counteract youth trafficking risk factors, schools can put in place a range of protective actions that help to foster trusted relationships, address student needs, develop youth skills and awareness, and build a safe school community.
