Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors Among Detained Youth
This bulletin examines suicidal thoughts and behaviors among detained youth, using data from the Northwestern Juvenile Project, a longitudinal study of youth detained at the Cook County Juvenile Temporary Detention Center in Chicago, IL. The findings indicate that one of every 10 newly detained youth has a history of attempted suicide, meaning that detained youth may be at a greater risk of attempting suicide than young people in the general population.
