Bureau of Land Management Youth Initiatives
This site describes looking to the future, The Bureau of Land Management's youth initiatives. These initiatives feature a variety of programs that engage, educate, and inspire and focus on youth from early childhood through young adulthood. The aim of the youth programs is to build on the spark of childhood wonder about the natural world, sustain interest through hands-on education and volunteer experiences during the school-age years, and develop into long-term engagement and stewardship, as well as pursuit of natural resource careers.
Citizen Corps
Citizen Corps was created to help coordinate volunteer activities that will make our communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to any emergency situation. It provides opportunities for people to participate in a range of measures to make their families, homes, and communities safer from the threats of crime, terrorism, and disasters of all kinds. Individuals with Disabilities and Others with Access and Functional Needs
The Ad Council and FEMA launched a public service advertisement (PSA) as part of a series of videos that illustrate how people with disabilities can take charge to prepare themselves and their families for emergencies. The new PSA, which will be available on the Ad Council’s and FEMA’s YouTube channels, as well as in the FEMA media library, emphasizes the Ready.gov campaign’s four building blocks of preparedness: Be Informed, Make a Plan, Build a Kit, and Get Involved.
Reports: Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network
These reports estimate the number of children with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities living in different areas of the United States. New data indicate that 1 in 68 school-aged children are on the autism spectrum, highlighting the importance of services and supports for these children now and as they grow into adolescence and adulthood.
Report: Preparing for Life after High School: The Characteristics and Experiences of Youth in Special Education
This multi-volume descriptive report presents information from the National Longitudinal Transition Study 2012, a longitudinal study conducted over several decades to examine the characteristics, experiences, and post-high school outcomes of youth with an individualized education program (IEP). The report shows that, overall, youth with an IEP feel positive about school but are more likely than their peers to struggle academically and to lag behind in taking key steps toward postsecondary education and jobs.
Report: System of Least Prompts
This report, developed by the What Works Clearinghouse, reviews the research on the System of Least Prompts, a practice that involves defining and implementing a hierarchy of prompts to assist students in learning a skill.
