Their website includes training materials focused on understanding youth violence, the public health approach, and creating a plan along with a wealth of other resources and information.
The Relationship Between Bullying and Suicide: What We Know and What It Means for Schools
This resource from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, Division of Violence Prevention, provides school administrators, teachers and school staff with the most current research findings about the relationship between bullying and suicide among school-aged youth and action-oriented, evidence-based suggestions to prevent and control bullying and suicide-related behavior in schools.
Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child Model
The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and CDC, in collaboration with key leaders from the education, public health, and school health fields, have developed and released the new Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model, which is recommended as a strategy for improving students’ health and learning in schools. The WSCC model, which builds on elements of the traditional coordinated school health approach and the whole child framework, will be integrated into CDC’s school health initiatives.

Webinar Recording: Bullying Prevention and Suicide Prevention for Schools
The recording is now available for the webinar, Bullying Prevention and Suicide Prevention for Schools: A Digital Approach From SAMHSA, presented by SAMHSA and the American School Health Association. The webinar provided an overview of the risk and impact of bullying and suicide in school-aged children and highlighted the connection between these public health issues and the "whole child" concept. The webinar also showcased SAMHSA's mobile applications, KnowBullying and Suicide Safe, and other key tools to promote bullying prevention and suicide prevention in schools.
Updated Training: DATING MATTERS® — Understanding Teen Dating Violence Prevention
CDC released an updated version of its VetoViolence training, DATING MATTERS®: Understanding Teen Dating Violence Prevention. DATING MATTERS ® is a free online course available to educators, school personnel, youth mentors, and other professionals that highlights what teen dating violence is and how to prevent it. New features include a fresh user experience, graphic novel scenarios, interactive exercises, and updated resources.
QuickStats: Percentage of Children and Adolescents Aged 5–17 Years with Diagnosed Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), By Race and Hispanic Ethnicity — National Health Interview Survey, United States, 1997–2014
This Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report illustrates the trends in ADHD diagnosis among children and adolescents, ages 5-17, between 1997 and 2014. Results show that the percentage of young people overall with diagnosed ADHD increased significantly among non-Hispanic white, non-Hispanic black, and Hispanic children, while Hispanic children were the least likely to have diagnosed ADHD
Report: Racial and Gender Disparities in Suicide Among Young Adults
Using mortality data from the National Vital Statistics System, this report examines suicide rates and methods among young adults aged 18–24, by sex and race and Hispanic origin. Results show that young adult males were more likely than young adult females to commit suicide across racial and ethnic groups. The suicide rate was highest among the American Indian or Alaska Native (AI/AN) population, and likely to be underreported. Non-Hispanic black and non-Hispanic white young adults were most likely to use firearms, followed by suffocation. Hispanic, Asian or Pacific Islander (API), and AI/AN young adults were most likely to use suffocation, followed by firearms.

This program is a five-year cooperative agreement supporting 10 state domestic violence coalitions as they focus on primary prevention of intimate partner violence. A recent blog post summarizes DELTA FOCUS grantee coalition’s work and provides information for other organizations on engaging in violence prevention.
Report: Health-Related Behaviors among Students
This study aims to understand the health-related behaviors that contribute to negative health outcomes among sexual minority youth and how the prevalence of these behaviors compares with that of nonsexual minorities. Data came from the 2015 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, which for the first time included questions about sexual identity and sex of sexual contacts. The report found that sexual minority youth experienced substantially higher levels of physical and sexual violence and bullying, and were at increased risk for suicide.

Resource: Preventing Intimate Partner Violence Across the Lifespan: A Technical Package of Programs, Policies, and Practices
This technical package (PDF, 64 pages) highlights six strategies that represent the best-available evidence to prevent intimate partner violence and its consequences across the lifespan. Communities and states can use this resource to guide and inform decisions about programs, policies, and practices related to intimate partner violence prevention.

This self-assessment and planning tool can help schools improve their health and safety policies and programs at the elementary, middle, and high school level. School administrators and school wellness teams can use the tool to identify strengths and weaknesses in their policies and programs for promoting health and safety, to develop an action plan for improving student health and safety, and to involve stakeholders in improving school policies, programs, and services.
Report: Prevalence of Parent-Reported Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Diagnosis and Associated Treatment Among U.S. Children and Adolescents, 2016
This study examines survey data from the National Survey of Children’s Health to estimate the prevalence of ADHD diagnosis and treatment. The results indicate that, as of 2016, 6.1 million children aged 2-17 years living in the U.S. had been diagnosed with ADHD, which is similar to previous estimates. Almost two thirds were taking medication, slightly less than half had received behavioral treatment in the past year, and nearly one fourth had received neither treatment.
Sexual Risk Behavior Differences Among Sexual Minority High School Students — United States, 2015 and 2017
This report uses data from the 2015 and 2017 cycles of the national Youth Risk Behavior Survey to examine differences in eight sexual risk behaviors between subgroups of sexual minority youth and nonsexual minority youth, as well as within sexual minority youth.
2019 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) Results
The 2019 YRBS results present a promising picture for some behaviors and experiences among high school students; however, other areas reveal that teens are still engaging in behaviors that put them at risk. While these health risk behaviors vary by sex, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation and grade, the 2019 YRBS results show that there is more work to do to help all teens create lifelong healthy behaviors.
Preventing Teen Dating Violence and Youth Violence Program
Different types of violence are connected and often share the same root causes. CDC’s Preventing Teen Dating and Youth Violence by Addressing Shared Risk and Protective Factors program funds 5 local health departments to engage in primary prevention activities to prevent teen dating violence and youth violence.

Teen Dating Violence: How Peers Can Affect Risk & Protective Factors
This brief (PDF, 24 pages) draws on NIJ-funded research, as well as broader literature, to illustrate the ways teens shape each other’s relationship experiences and decisions to enter and leave romantic relationships that turn violent.
Child Trauma and its Effects: Implications for Police
This article describes child trauma and the negative impact it can have on development, and the implications this has for police, especially for those working in poor communities of color. The article also suggests police be trained on the high prevalence of severe childhood trauma in such communities, its effects on the developing child, and its impact on adolescent and adult functioning to increase their capacity to address this major public mental health issue.
OJJDP Releases Research on Youth's Mental Health Needs and Long-Term Outcomes after Detention

Report: Surviving the Streets of New York: Experiences of LGBTQ Youth, YMSM, and YWSW Engaged in Survival Sex
The Urban Institute released a report (PDF, 94 pages), supported by OJJDP, on involvement in the juvenile justice, criminal justice, and child welfare systems and youth engaging in survival sex who self-identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning (LGBTQ); young men who have sex with men (YMSM); and young women who have sex with woman (YWSW). The report offers practice and policy recommendations to repurpose law enforcement-based responses to youth engaged in survival sex and services to meet their needs without system involvement.

This report presents the most recent data on school crime and student safety. Topics covered include victimization at school, teacher injury, bullying and cyberbullying, school conditions, student perceptions of personal safety at school, and a special spotlight section on juveniles in residential placement facilities.
Report: Impact of Domestic Violence Policies and Practices on Girls and Young Women
This summary report (PDF, 19 pages) by OJJDP’s National Girls Initiative explains the issues discussed during a roundtable event with advocates from the violence against women and juvenile justice reform for girls communities. The report describes a set of principles identified by participants; research gaps; and promising future federal, state, and local directions to ensure girls and young women are not criminalized for behaviors due to experiences of trauma, and can access services and supports.
