NIH-Funded Study: Bullying Decreases among Middle School and High School Students
Published in the American Journal of Public Health, a NIH-funded study found that bullying among students in grades six through 10 declined significantly between 1998 and 2010. A less dramatic decline in fighting among students was also observed. As part of this podcast, the study’s lead author explains the findings and their implications for policy and practice.
Interns Graduate Project SEARCH-NIH Program, Eight Hired at NIH
Project SEARCH interns gathered on June 5, 2015, to celebrate their graduation from the program and their transition from interns to NIH staff members. The recording is now available for the webinar, Bullying Prevention and Suicide Prevention for Schools: A Digital Approach From SAMHSA, presented by SAMHSA and the American School Health Association. The webinar provided an overview of the risk and impact of bullying and suicide in school-aged children and highlighted the connection between these public health issues and the "whole child" concept. The webinar also showcased SAMHSA's mobile applications, KnowBullying and Suicide Safe, and other key tools to promote bullying prevention and suicide prevention in schools.

High School Graduation Rate Hits New Record High
New data released by NCES show that the nation’s high school graduation rate hit 81 percent in 2012-13, the highest rate seen since states adopted a new common metric for tracking graduation rates five years ago. See graduation rates listed by state.
New Modules Developed for Sexual Assault Advocate/Counselor Training
OVCTTAC has developed three new modules for its online Sexual Assault Advocate/Counselor Training. This training is designed to teach advocates how to provide competent, effective crisis intervention services to victims and survivors of sexual assault.
New Modules Added to VAT Online
OVC’s Victim Assistance Training (VAT) Online offers service providers online training opportunities to better assist victims of crime. Five new modules can now be found on VAT Online addressing sexual assault, LGBTQ populations, victims with substance abuse issues, financial crimes, and identity theft.

OJP Releases FY 2015 Program Plan for Funding Initiatives
OJP’s Program Plan for 2015 is now available online. This searchable online document contains current funding opportunities for initiatives within the OJP. The plan includes funding opportunities for juvenile justice programs on juvenile re-entry, tribal and other minority youth, children’s exposure to violence, juvenile drug courts, at-risk or system-involved girls, cross-over/dual-system youth, and youth violence prevention.
Rape and Sexual Assault Among College-Age Females, 1995 - 2013
This report compares the characteristics of rape and sexual assault victimization of 18-24 year old females enrolled and not enrolled in college. The report examines the relationship of victim and offender, involvement of a weapon, location of victimization, reporting to the police, perceived offender characteristics, and victim demographics.
