Child Sex Trafficking Victims Easily Missed by Doctors, Social Workers
A new study reveals that most health care workers may lack the knowledge, awareness, and training needed to identify potential victims of child sex trafficking. A survey of 500 doctors, nurses, physicians assistants, social workers, and patient and family advocates revealed that, when given two different scenarios, only half or fewer than half of respondents were able to correct identify a child as victim of sex trafficking.
NIH-Funded Study: Bullying Decreases among Middle School and High School Students
Published in the American Journal of Public Health, a NIH-funded study found that bullying among students in grades six through 10 declined significantly between 1998 and 2010. A less dramatic decline in fighting among students was also observed. As part of this podcast, the study’s lead author explains the findings and their implications for policy and practice.

The webinar provided an overview of the risk and impact of bullying and suicide in school-aged children and highlighted the connection between these public health issues and the "whole child" concept. The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), in collaboration with COPS and the FBI’s Violent Crimes Against Children Section, released “Child Sex Trafficking: A Training Series for Frontline Officers.” This free, self-paced online course will educate frontline officers on how to recognize and respond to victims of child sex trafficking.
