Bringing Youth Preparedness Education to the Forefront: A Literature Review and Recommendations
Recognizing the need for research to evaluate the current state of disaster preparedness education and research regarding youth, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) commissioned a review of the literature related to emergency preparedness education for youth. The objectives of this review were to identify research and evaluations of youth education interventions for emergency preparedness and to use the findings to develop recommendations that can be used to assess current programs and to enhance the provision of youth preparedness education programs.

FEMA Youth Preparedness Council
FEMA’s Youth Preparedness Council is comprised of a set of youth leaders who participate in a community preparedness events and voice their opinions, experiences, ideas, solutions, and questions on youth disaster preparedness with the leadership of national organizations working on youth preparedness. This is the first ever FEMA youth-led Council, comprised of 13 members and one chair. The group attended its inaugural meeting in Washington D.C. in August, 2012. New Online Courses Available in School Emergency Management for K-12 Schools and School Districts
The REMS TA Center has developed five new online courses for practitioners in the field of K–12 school emergency management that address the following topics: (1) Developing a Bereavement and Loss Annex; (2) Developing a COOP Annex; (3) Developing a Food Contamination Annex; (4) Planning for Infectious Diseases; and (5)Planning for Large Events.
