Passport in Time
Passport in Time (PIT) is a volunteer archaeology and historic preservation program of the USDA Forest Service (FS). PIT volunteers work with professional FS archaeologists and historians on national forests throughout the U.S. on such diverse activities as archaeological survey and excavation, rock art restoration, survey, archival research, historic structure restoration, oral history gathering, and analysis and curation of artifacts. FS professional staff of archaeologists and historians serve as hosts, guides, and co-workers.

Teen CERT: Community Emergency Response Team
The Teen CERT training program teaches youth readiness and response skills. Hands-on practice and realistic exercises prepare youth for the unexpected in their community. Youth Indicators is a statistical compilation of data on the distribution of youth, their family structure, economic factors, school and extracurricular activities, health factors, and other elements that constitute the world of young people between the ages of 0-17 years. This report is created and published by Child Stats, a division of the Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics.
Resource: Clearinghouse for Military Family Readiness
This clearinghouse helps providers identify, select, and implement evidence-based programs and practices to address wide-ranging family and mental health issues. The searchable database includes effective and promising intervention programs as well as resources and strategies to ensure the welfare of military families.

This brief (PDF, 10 pages) provides educators and service providers with information about the educational rights of — and supports available to — children and youth experiencing homelessness. The brief also provides an overview of federal programs that target services specifically to the families of veterans with school-age children.
Resource: Financial Aid for Unaccompanied Homeless Youth
This letter (PDF, 2 pages) highlights new policy changes that will remove barriers homeless youth face when accessing financial aid for college. ED plans to change the 2017-18 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) to be more supportive of homeless students and will remove the definition of “youth” to allow for a smoother process for 22 and 23 year old students to determine their independent status.
