Department of Defense STARBASE
The DoD STARBASE is an educational program sponsored by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs. Students can participate in challenging "hands-on, mind-on" activities in aviation, science, technology, engineering, math, and space exploration. The program provides students with 20-25 hours of stimulating experiences at National Guard, Navy, Marine, Air Force Reserve and Air Force bases across the nation.

Online Community for Children of Military Families
MilitaryKidsConnect.org, a Department of Defense-sponsored website, features content for children, tweens, and teens of military families. The site provides an online community that allows these young people to support one another while learning coping and resilience-building skills

This site helps young adults plan their next steps in life by bringing together the most recently available information about colleges, careers and military services. Designed primarily for individuals between 16 and 24, the site features information drawn and collated from the U.S. Departments of Commerce, Defense, Education and Labor. The site contains information on more than 1,000 military and civilian careers and nearly 7,000 accredited colleges, universities and trade schools, and can serve as a central resource for valuable background on college admission requirements, employment trends and military benefits.
DoDEA Virtual High School
The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) offers a Virtual High School (DVHS), which provides more than 70 online courses to students in DoDEA secondary schools to meet DoDEA eligible students’ academic and career-oriented goals. DVHS also offers the Domestic Transition Program, which provides students transitioning from an overseas DoDEA-supported program or Non-DoD Schools Program to a local public school or an accredited educational program in the United States, allowing for continuity in students’ education.

This clearinghouse helps providers identify, select, and implement evidence-based programs and practices to address wide-ranging family and mental health issues. The searchable database includes effective and promising intervention programs as well as resources and strategies to ensure the welfare of military families.
App: School Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Assessments
EPA launched the School IAQ Assessment mobile app, which can assist schools and school districts with performing comprehensive IAQ facility assessments to protect the health of children and school staff. Schools that want to develop, sustain, or reinvigorate their IAQ management programs can use this tool to identify and prioritize IAQ improvements that address environmental health issues such as ventilation, cleaning and maintenance, environmental asthma triggers, radon, and integrated pest management. The app is available for Apple or Android smart devices.
2015 International Student Data
Developed by SEVP, a new report, “SEVIS by the Numbers” (PDF, 33 pages), illustrates the latest data from the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), a website that provides information about international students, exchange visitors, and their dependents while they are in the United States. The report includes information about the number of students, where they are from, where they are attending school, and what they are studying. SEVP also launched a new interactive mapping tool that allows users to explore international student data included in the report.
American Red Cross and FEMA: Helping Children Cope with Disaster
This booklet was created to assist parents and caregivers in helping youth cope with disasters and emergencies. The guide also provides information on preparing family emergency plans and discussing these plans with youth.

The resource also provides tips for administrators to explain school and parent roles and responsibilities in preparing for and responding to emergencies.

FEMA Catalogue of Youth Disaster Preparedness Education Resources
The Catalogue of Youth Disaster Preparedness Education Resources was created to assist individuals and organizations with locating preparedness resources tailored to youth of all ages (preschool through college). Research has shown that youth disaster preparedness education is vital to building and maintaining resilient communities—especially when incorporating key recommended practices.
These Online High Schools Didn’t Make the Grade
FTC has charged companies known as “diploma mills” for selling fake high school diplomas that they promise can be used to apply for college and employment. Users may be dealing with a diploma mill if the company states that they charge a flat fee; can provide a diploma in months, weeks, or days; require little or no coursework; or can offer a degree solely for “work or life experience.”

SEVIS by the Numbers (PDF, 32 pages) is a quarterly report on international students studying in the United States. The report contains the latest data from the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), a web-based system that includes information about international students, exchange visitors, and their dependents while they are in the United States.

This resource informs colleges and universities that SEVP can no longer accept ACICS accreditation for certification purposes. Schools accredited by ACICS can use this information to take the appropriate steps to find a new accreditor or provide SEVP with additional evidence in lieu of accreditation.

This biannual report (PDF, 17 pages) highlights key Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) data to illustrate trends, values, and information on international students studying in the U.S. The report provides information on students who come to the U.S. to study, SEVP-certified schools that enroll these students, and international student demographics within individual U.S. states.
Report: Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange
This report provides information on international students studying at higher education institutions in the U.S. and students from the U.S. studying abroad. Developed by the Institute of International Education, the report shows the number of international students at colleges and universities in the U.S. increased by 7% to a record high of 1,043,839 in the 2015-16 academic year, while U.S. students studying abroad increased by 3% to 313,415 students in the 2014-15 academic year.

This report describes the state of financial education (PDF, 48 pages) among students and illustrates current efforts to enhance financial education with respect to student understanding of topics related to financing postsecondary education and making sound financial decisions while enrolled in school and beyond. The report also identifies programs that promote or enhance financial literacy for students, including those that involve partnerships between nonprofit organizations.
