New Title I, Part D Data Collection Resource

Tip Sheet: Federal Resources and Initiatives for Youth Who Are Neglected, Delinquent, or At Risk
NDTAC released this tip sheet providing an overview of relevant federal offices and programs, as well as data sources, that can be used to support state- and local-level decision-making and planning efforts of programs for youth who are neglected or delinquent. It also offers key questions that program administrators and practitioners can use to dig deeper into federal datasets and initiatives.

It highlights the five critical components of an effective reentry system: program infrastructure, strategic partnerships, education services, transition processes, and sustainability.

Resource: Improving Outcomes for Youth with Disabilities in Juvenile Corrections
This toolkit includes evidence- and research-based practices, tools, and resources that educators, families, facilities, and community agencies can use to better support and improve the long-term outcomes for youth with disabilities in juvenile correctional facilities. The toolkit focuses on four key areas identified as part of an OSEP-sponsored focus group series on juvenile corrections: facility-wide practices, educational practices, transition and re-entry practices, and community and interagency practices.

These technical assistance guides assist collaborations among DOL, ED, states, local workforce development areas, other workforce and education partners, and social service providers with serving out-of-school youth. Specifically, strategies are included in the guides for serving out-of-school English learners, current and former foster youth, and justice-involved youth.
Resource: Program-Level Gainful Employment Earnings Data
This data set provides information on program-level outcomes of college students preparing for gainful employment that can be used by prospective students and their families to weigh their options. Overall, the data show graduates of career training programs at public institutions generally fare better than those of comparable programs at for-profit colleges, earning higher salaries and being more prepared to enter higher earning fields.

Resource: Raising the Bar: Creating and Sustaining Quality Education Services in Juvenile Detention
This issue brief, developed by the National Evaluation and Technical Assistance Center for the Education of Children and Youth Who Are Neglected, Delinquent, or At Risk, addresses features of juvenile detention facilities as well as the characteristics of youth who find themselves in detention centers. It also offers overarching principles of educational programming for youth in detention and provides a description of flexible and high quality educational services in short-term juvenile justice facilities. Educators and administrators in juvenile justice settings can use this brief when developing and delivering educational services for the youth they serve.

This report examines who public high school students view as their main influence when they are considering postsecondary education and careers. Results show students relied on family members as the main influence when thinking about postsecondary education, and students relied on themselves primarily when thinking about careers.

Volunteer.gov is America's Natural and Cultural Resources Volunteer Portal built and maintained by the Federal Interagency Team on Volunteerism (FITV) that is comprised of volunteer program coordinators from three Cabinet level departments. Native American Traditional Justice Practices
“Expert Working Group Report: Native American Traditional Justice Practices” (PDF, 35 pages) summarizes discussions and recommendations from a meeting about federal efforts to support the use of traditional Native American justice interventions to respond to criminal and delinquent behavior. The meeting was held in April 2013 and included 14 experts from multidisciplinary communities.
President’s FY2016 Indian Affairs Budget Requests $2.9 Billion to Support Tribal Self-Determination, Strengthen Native American Communities
President Obama’s Fiscal Year 2016 budget request (PDF, 6 pages) for Indian Affairs is $2.9 billion, a 12 percent increase from the FY2015 enacted level, reflecting the Administration’s strong support for Native American communities. The request includes many opportunities for Native youth, including the launch of Generation Indigeneous, a Native youth-focused initiative, and investments in education and youth programming.

This website provides a one-stop shop for American Indians and Alaska Natives to access resources available from the federal government. Users can complete a prescreening questionnaire to determine their eligibility criteria for resources and programs and learn how to apply. Resource categories include youth, education, food, employment, loans, and environment.
