Teen Action Toolkit: Building a Youth-led Response to Teen Victimization
Developed by COPS and the National Center for Victims of Crime, this resource is hands-on implementation guide for the Teen Action Partnership (TAP) for Teen Victims (PDF, 150 pages) program, which harnesses youth as leaders, in partnership with adults, to transform their communities’ response to teenage victims of crime. The toolkit guides educators, law enforcement personnel, outreach workers, victim service providers, youth workers, and teens through the four phases of TAP for Teen Victims, and includes ideas for activities and reflections.
Technology, Teen Dating Violence and Abuse, and Bullying
This study from the Department of Justice analyzed violence and abuse experienced by teens via technology, as well as the cyber abuse present within teen romantic relationships. Results showed that 17% of participants reported being victims of cyberbullying in the past year, with 26% of youth in relationships reporting cyber dating abuse. Girls were more likely than boys to report both types of victimization, and LGBTQ youth were more likely to experience both forms of abuse than heterosexual teens.

The Third Annual Summit on Preventing Youth Violence
This blog entry from the Department of Justice outlines the events of the recent, two-day Third Annual Summit on Preventing Youth Violence. Attorney General Eric Holder and Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council Cecilia Muñoz opened the Summit, stressing the Administration’s commitment to preventing youth violence. Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Mary Lou Leary led a discussion with mayors and other city leaders from Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Memphis, Salinas, and San Jose about implementing comprehensive plan to address youth violence. A highlight of the event included a panel of youth leaders, who explained what they are doing in their communities to ensure brighter futures for themselves and their peers.
Understanding the Impact of Children’s Exposure to Violence in American Indian/Alaska Native Communities
This blog entry from the Department of Justice describes the new task force created to examine the impact of violence on children in Indian country. This task force, which originated from the findings of the Defending Childhood Initiative, comprises a federal working group and an advisory committee of experts.

“Through Our Eyes: Children, Violence, and Trauma” Video Series and Resources
This video series aims to educate child-serving professionals about the significance of exposure to violence, the lasting effects of this exposure, ways to protect children, and how to alleviate harm from exposure. The accompanying resource guide contains information about hotlines, organizations, websites, public awareness products, training, and publications that can help professionals as they work to make homes, schools, and communities safer for children.
SART Toolkit: Resources for Sexual Assault Response Teams
SARTs, or sexual assault response teams, can help victims of sexual assault through the maze of governmental and community agencies they interact with to receive assistance. The SART Toolkit can help communities considering developing a SART program or communities that have an established coordinated response but want to improve it.
IACP Launches No-Cost Online Training on Child Trafficking
The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), in collaboration with COPS and the FBI’s Violent Crimes Against Children Section, released “Child Sex Trafficking: A Training Series for Frontline Officers.” This free, self-paced online course will educate frontline officers on how to recognize and respond to victims of child sex trafficking.
Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Forces Arrest More Than 1,000 Child Predators in Operation Broken Heart
Sixty-one members of the ICAC Task Force, funded by OJJDP, arrested 1,140 child predators from 41 states during Operation Broken Heart. This was a two-month, nationwide coordinated investigative operation to intensify efforts to identify and arrest child sexual predators during the months of April and May 2015.
Online Training: Building Resiliency in Child Abuse Organizations
This one-day online training identifies the five core elements of resiliency and explores how the organizational resiliency model can be implemented in victim service agencies through policies, supervisory techniques, and trainings. Continuing education unit (CEU) is offered for this training.
Fiscal Years 2013-2014 Status Report for the Federal Strategic Action Plan on Services for Victims of Human Trafficking in the United States
OVC released “Fiscal Years 2013-2014 Status Report for the Federal Strategic Action Plan on Services for Victims of Human Trafficking in the United States” (PDF, 64 pages), a report that documents the progress that federal agencies made during 2013-2014 on each of the 250 action items in the plan related to human trafficking victim service improvements.
Second National Survey of Children’s Exposure to Violence
Children’s Exposure to Violence, Crime, and Abuse: An Update (PDF, 16 pages) presents findings from the second National Survey of Children’s Exposure to Violence (NatSCEV II), conducted in 2011. NatSCEV II gathered data about exposure to violence among a new group of 4,500 children and youth, and added new categories of crime and victimization. Findings from the NatSCEV II show that 60% of young people were exposed to violence in the past year, and more than one in 10 reported five or more exposures.

Report: Sexual Victimization in Prisons, Jails, and Juvenile Correctional Facilities
This report (PDF, 97 pages) presents the findings of the Review Panel on Prison Rape. The Panel gathered information on the practices of selected correctional institutions that had either a low or a high prevalence of inmate sexual victimization and made recommendations that aim to help eliminate sexual victimization in prisons, jails, and juvenile correctional facilities.
Report: Campus Sexual Assault in the United States
This report includes a review of prevalence estimates for campus sexual assault in the United States published between January 2000 and February 2015. Results show that estimates of rape varied widely, largely due to differences in measurement and definitions of sexual assault among studies.
